Re: Careless error, help diagnosing after frying it?

Does the power look fine, but meter just reads wrong? If so, look for the thread where a couple of resistors were added, 1 M ohm I think.

Check C2 and C4 on the mainboard at a minimum.

Re: Ever changing serial number

I had a serial number that kept changing and it was the result of a bad bootloader installation. I ended up having to use a USBasp programmer to get the firmware loaded correctly.

Re: Transmits all modes except CW.

Do you hear a tone in CW when you press the PTT button? On my unit I do hear a tone if I push PTT in CW mode. Check with the vendor of the unit, they may be able to assist you with this issue.

That probably means the PTT line is shorted not enabling using it for Tx.

If/when these are available I promise to buy at least one, but likely 2 depending what RF board band option(s) is/are available.

I would also purchase one or two RF boards, especially the hi band version, but the classic if that was the only other option.

Re: Poor RX performance

Yes Jim, I’ll take the time to make recordings/videos. To be clear, this radio was not a kit so it doesn’t really belong under “troubleshooting”. As a SOTA activator with 700 summits, I have a lot of experience with tiny, lightweight QRP radios (KD1JV, QCX, etc) all built by me but decided to purch...

@ACY99 Well I hope to contact you on the air then. JS8 is my favorite HF mode for 5 Watts. Although I've had some success with SSB when I use a good antenna late in the afternoon. Colorado is open to me from California. My fav antenna has been a doublet run up a Tacmini FG pole, fed with window lin...

Re: (tr)uSDX - Alternative Band Setups available

If I build the classic version will the software allow me to select a frequency in the 17M band and use the 15M LPF?. Or does the software lock out all bands other than those listed for the classic version? If the software does lock out other bands, why? The classic LPFs as configured should be ade...

Re: What to Expect from Pre-Built Unit: Tuning, firmware, etc

I did and even used my NanoVNA, but it was so close I decided it was enough power and efficiency to leave well enough alone. I don't think any of the pre-built units or kits are using the changed ratio for T2 yet. Same for a kit I built and the pre-built unit I ordered from the approved vendor.

John,

I know there were reports of a small number of spurious signals, but not a lot. Generally for me the band noise is higher than the noise floor and most spurious signals. Can you provide more details?

Holding the encoder down while powering on the unit will do a factory reset. I had the TX audio go from good to poor and a factory reset took care off that.

Re: What to Expect from Pre-Built Unit: Tuning, firmware, etc

I did not have to do any mods, but did have to adjust the reference frequency to get the readout to work correctly. It is easy to do by tuning to WWV and beating against that or comparing a signal to another radio.

Re: Spectrum Analysis of bands

How are you making the measurements? You need to use an attenuator and dummy load to get accurate harmonic measurements. If I have some spare time this evening I will try both of mine, but I seem to remember when I first got them I tested them and they met or exceeded FCC requirements on all bands. ...

Re: (tr)uSDX - Alternative Band Setups available

I´ve updated my Classic Band Table. I did not change any Values (exept for Typo -initially suggesting to use wrong Toroid Type on 15m), but I changed the measurement results, as I could achieve 80% and more on all Bands by Setting it to PA Bias Max 160. The FDT86256 FET has a higher gate threshold ...

Re: (tr)uSDX 9 bands version upcoming?

Hello,

The radio only supports 5 bands, but 3 different band plans are available, but the RF board needs different components to support that. You cannot currently get kits or assembled units with the different band plans configured as all the values are not confirmed yet.
