My requirements for this great rig are likely different from most. I dont require a tiny rig but rather wanted to have an internal rechargeable battery (1800mAH), lighted pushbuttons (for night time use), larger speaker with more volume and better bass response, and a dedicated AF Gain control. I also machined a small shroud for the readout to make it a little better viewable in sun light.
I added a small LM386 gain stage and that allowed for the larger speaker and the AF Gain control. The shown front panel is temporary- just to determine how everything would fit. The LED pushbuttons only added 2mA drain and the LM386 another 18mA.

Very nice. The front panel looks good the way it is already.
