Modifying a Cheap Baofeng Speaker Mic for (tr)uSDX Use
Hi Group,
I bought two of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001859369437.html, one for my UV5-R and one for use with the (tr)uSDX, under $4 (at the time) with free shipping.
Seems to work fine (as well as I can get SSB to work anyway!), even the speaker, but howls above volume setting of 15. The distance between mic and (tr)uSDX does not seem to make a difference, odd.
Anyway, here is the skinny on modifying the Baofeng mic for use with the (tr)uSDX. You'll need the mic, two 3.5mm TRS (the Audio one can be TS only if you like) connectors or pigtails (I used pigtails from Amazon), some heatshrink, and a steady hand for butt splice soldering small wires together.
On the 3.5mm TRS pigtails, Red is Tip, White is Ring, and Black is Sleeve.
Have fun!

P.S.
Even the little red light on the mic illuminates when PTT is pressed.
AND, the 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom of the mic next to where the cord comes out of the case works too!

Hello Franz,
resending pictures from Manuels Manual for (tr)uSDX
makes no sense for me
The hint to look into the Manual would be useful maybe
and there is already a drawing in this Manual how to connect a speaker-mike..

Is there anyway to adjust the mic gain in the radio menu...i have connected a similar mic but it seems to need a higher gain

One thing to note: The Baofeng mics seem to have 8Ω speakers vs 32Ω in the default kit. At least the two cheap mics I just received in the mail have 8Ω. The RX current will go up.

As a simple protection you have R23.

I got fed up with my bad cable assemblies so I decided to create my own 3D-printed plug to connect a Baofeng mic to the (tr)uSDX. The mic I chose is too small, though. I recommend the normal ones unless space is a concern. Here's the writeup.

Nice job! I would have liked to perhaps see accommodations for a screw and a "socket" for a nut to hold the halves together (look at Prusa MK3S+ heatbed cover as an example). Nonetheless, very nice!

Good idea .... and several attempts later, here's the result - I'm getting better with Fusion360accommodations for a screw and a "socket"
STL files, etc., are here , if anyone is interested.

Is there an external microphone that can be used for (tr)uSDX directly, without modification? Microphone only.

I have a question...
Could a yaesu 3.5mm microspeaker work with a microphone and speaker splitter?
Example: https://amzn.eu/d/8MPRsOS
Thanks

Compare the connections of that cable with the (tr)uSDX connectors: https://dl2man.de/4-trusdx-manual/ I would venture to say the answer is no.dca123 wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 03:11 I have a question...

Could I use a baofeng mic, with a kenwood adaptator to 3.5mm Jack and use a splitter to audio and microphone?
