BS170's versus an FDT86256

Post by N6YWU »

Assuming I can find either FDT86256's or BS170’s in stock, what are the trade-offs between selecting one versus the other for a (tr)uSDX build?

Is one more likely than the other to be tolerant of non-optimal or bad SWR to the antenna?
Is there any efficiency difference between the two?
Would it be easier to assemble and tune a classic 5-band RF board for one versus the other?
Has anyone successfully assembled and tuned for good efficiency a Classic 5-band board for one or both?

Thanks and 73,
Ron

Good question.
In theory FDT86256 should be more robust.

In Practice I have
a) only one Board with FDT86256, as it still only at the beginning of evaluation phase
b) never managed to blow either of them under normal use. My last failing PA Stage was, when we used IRLML2060 on 8-Band Sandwich.

Wait a few weeks. Sunny sent us Classic and High Band Boards for Evaluation.
Once we have tested them and figured out all the Coil Values, they will be available for purchase from Sunny.
They will have FDT86256 on them.

When do they plan to sell these "Classic" and "High Band" (tr)uSDX with FDT86256 final?

That's very exciting, thanks. Do you have the capacitor values worked out yet for the High band version?

Hopefully you will post a chart of tested values similar to what you did for the Classic Band version. :D
