Plugged Power plug into the PA Jack. Now dead.

Post by W6LKB »

I have two (tr)usdx units that were both working fine. In a moment of carelessness, I plugged the 12 v power plug into the PA socket. The display went crazy and now is dead.

I tried unplugging the RF board and applying power via the USB port, the unit doesn't display anything, but I noticed that U5 gets very hot! When I put 12 volts in the power port (without any USB), U5 doesn't heat up.

Is this unit salvageable? Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated!

Most likely your ATMega is dead, as the PA Port is directly wired to the microcontroller. If you´re lucky that´s it. If not, there´s more to check....
AtMega is easy to replace, if you have hot air soldering station. If not: Ask someone in your local ham club, if he could help. There´s usually always some expert, that can do it ;)
