constant power SSB

Post by HenkC »

Hi,

Long ago I used PLL-SSB, with constant power output.
This worked well with DX, but also prevented LFD a lot.
(the drawback was a wider tx spectrum)

I would like to find out if I can use the uSDX for this purpose.
No unit has been bought yet.

With the "old" system a carrier (at zero beat for the rx side) was transmitted in case there was no audio input. So the RF output was always without any amplitude component

At PA setting 8 the uSDX does transmit only phase information (according to a video).
In case of no audio input, is there a carrier transmitted?

I do hope someone can put some info on-line.

Yes, at a drive setting 8, the (tr)usdx is generating a ssb signal with constant amplitude.

When there is no modulation, the carrier is switched off. This is controlled by the noise gate threshold setting. Changing three noise gate setting from 4 to 0 will disable this behavior and never switch off the carrier; in this case there will be background noise transmitted at full power (carrier not switched off).
