Recommended Batteries?

Post by philbride »

What batteries do you recommend or, better yet, what batteries do you use (brand, type, V, mAh ...)?

I use 10x EBL AAA rechargeable 1.2V 1100mAh batteries from Amazon. I 3D printed a little case and slide to go on the back of the (tr)usdx, so I have 2 packs which I can easily switch out. FYI I came up with this right before Manuel introduced his, I think his is cooler 8-)

I'm in the process of testing how long these will work for with POTA activations, right now I think I can get a good couple hours of operating out of them but haven't had time to run that long in one shot yet.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I'll start with the 18650. See how well they work for sota trips (mist, rain, snow, sunshine!)

Update: Still trying to exhaust the AAA rechargeable battery pack, after 2 hours and 66 POTA QSOs I wore out way before the battery did. This little radio is incredibly power efficient!

I have the 3 place 18650 battery setup. Has anyone used a 4 place pack?

I use 10 AA Nickel metal hydride. Nominal 12 volts. Easy to find. Not too expensive. Safe. Take a while to recharge. Not as light or compact as lithium. Finding a 10 cell AA holder is probably the hardest part.

I use this. 3AH USB and 12v power with built in on off switch all about the same size as the rig.

KB8FJO, maybe 4 18650 is not very convenient 3 make 11v and with the DL2MAN box the size is correct; 4 batteries make 14.8v
