What is the 999 displayed?

Post by KG7YSX »

What is the 999 sometimes displayed at the top of the screen during transmit? It will say:

11.8 V 4.7W 999

I might be blind but I couldn't find it in the documentation.

Thanks for your help! I apologize if there was an obvious answer somewhere that I should have seen.

Thanks! What is the target for this number? Should it be zero? If I attenuate any further, my received audio becomes really quiet.

This number displays when transmitting with Winlink, but not with JS8Call. Any ideas why?

Ok I figured out my question about the difference in the appearance of the display between JS8 and Winlink. I was using RTS for PTT on Winlink, but CAT on JS8. Changing to RTS PTT with the digirig com port on JS8 brings up that helpful display, but seems to result in more frequent conflicts with CAT control. Oh well. Someday I'll figure this out.

I was surprised to learn that RTS works over the CAT com port too. That's cool. I can't tell yet if there is any benefit to doing that though.

In tweaking with the audio settings, It seems that if I attenuate enough to drop that overdriving indicator from 999 to 128 (there is nothing in between) my output is then too quiet for receiving stations to hear. Investigation continuing.

Is 999 mean that FETS are always open and it dangerous for them to transmit in "999 Mode"?
