Replace main knob

Post by KA4CWW »

After searching for a while I found a knob on Amazon that works perfectly to replace the main knob without covering up the two switches. It's aluminum fits the shaft correctly and has a detent for your finger. Sold by wallfront store.

It sure looks like it.
I love it. The little indent for the finger makes changing freq very easy.

Just remember when tightening the set screw to rock the knob back and forth so there is no slack. If you don't it will losen and fall off.

To get the original knob use a flat blade screwdriver and easily pry up then remove with fingers.

Should we look for specific encoder post / knob inner hole size?

I'm waiting for my (tr)uSDX to arrive, and I haven't tried it before, but I like those aluminum "disc" knobs with finger dimple.

A handle with a diameter of 20mm and a height of 15mm is ideal. To do this, you need to change the encoder so that the height is 15mm. Other hands look terrible.

Shows the guitar knob I replaced mine with Slipped on and lowered the profile enough to fit easier in my case.

Maybe one can cut the post a couple of mm with a dremel tool...

Not sure if the folks in this thread have seen this video from DL2MAN himself:

I have also designed one that it pretty low profile(the lowest I have seen):
https://www.printables.com/model/981556-truknob

DL2MAN if you see this message I used your "(tr)u" as an homage to the (tr)uSDX and to mean the same thing. Its truly the smallest (micro) knob I have found for the (tr)uSDX and like the (tr)uSDX does the most with as little as possible. However I can change the name if you want me to. Just let me know.

The knob with the finger dimple looks exactly like the one on my MCHF. I may buy a spare :D. I have the low pro DL2MAN knob printed by a friend of mine and it is really nice fits the trusdx perfect. You cant really go any lower. I tried one with the finger dimple on the trusdx but found it difficult to use as the trusdx is so lite and the detents on the encoder make the entire rig want to spin around unless you hold the case while turning the knob.
