Testing of Winlink, JS8Call, & FT8 on Beta 2.00u

Post by QuantumRadio »

Hello,
I'd like to mention my findings on the testing of Beta v2.00u with these apps:

Testing platform - Windows 11 Home vers. 22H2 loaded on i7-10510U CPU @1.8GHz 2.3GHz; 16GB RAM. ASUS laptop.

FT8 - launch truSDX driver. Launch WSJT-X v 2.5.2. Settings. Select Kenwood TS-480 as radio, Serial Port=COM8, Baud Rate=115200, Data Bits/Stop Bits/Handshake=Default. No DTR nor RTS. PTT Method=CAT, Transmit Audio Source=Front/Mic, Mode=USB, Split Op=None. Audio, Input=CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable), Output=CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).

(tr)uSDX volume=6, 2.4 Semi QSK=OFF, Mode=USB, WSJT-X Left hand side Pwr Bar=80%.

App works OK. Have made 4 QSOs. Heads up that the Waterfall display, it shows a spiky trace every once in a while and the cure is to restart the truSDX driver. TESTED OK.

JS8Call - launch truSDX driver. Launch JS8Call v2.2.0. Settings. Under Rig Options, Select Kenwood TS-480 as radio, PTT method=CAT, Mode=USB, Transmit Audio Source=Front/Mic, Split Op=None. Under CAT Contro, Ser Port=COM8, Baud Rate=115200, Data Bits/Stop Bits/Handshake=Default. No DTR nor RTS. Audio, Input=CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable), Output=CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).

(tr)uSDX volume=6, 2.4 Semi QSK=OFF, Mode=USB, WSJT-X Left hand side Pwr Bar=80%.

App seemed to work OK. Have received 2 HBs. No QSOs so far. The Waterfall display seemed void of signals, possibly because there were none. TESTED OK.

WinLink Express - launch truSDX driver. Launch Winlink Express v1.7.4.0 (eval copy). Write email. Post to Outbox. VARA HF v4.7.7, Open Session=VARA HF Winlink, Confirmed that in VARA>Settings, Sound Card the following are selected: Input=CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable), Output=CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Vara's Audio Gauge needle showing -90%. In Settings>Radio Setup, tried radio=Icom 7100, Kenwood Amateur, Kenwood TS-590S, Kenwood TS-590SG, Ten-Tec Omni 7 & Jupiter.

App changed frequencies in (tr)uSDX but did not transmit. Of course no contact with any of the 40m HF Channels attempted. TEST FAILED.

Any and all pointers on what to try w/Winlink Express would be appreciated.

Regards,
Stephen

Hello,
Just thought I'd share a problem I had this morning with getting FT8 on (tr)uSDX to run w/firmware version 2.00u. This is the use case with a single USB cable between the (tr)uSDX & the PC running WSJT-X. It turned out to be a self inflicted problem and FT8 is working flawlessly now.

I had configured the (tr)uSDX for CW ops for this past weekend's CW POTA activation. For CW, I'd changed the menu option 1.3 Filter BW = 100. This gave problems with FT8 until I changed the setting to 3k0. With this wider BW, FT8 is happy.

Hope this helps for FT8 ops.
