Hello, I am in the process of designing a 3d printed adaptor for those mics with 3.5 and 2.5 jack. Will use panel mount female 3.5 and 2.5 jack in a 3s housing that terminate in two short leads with dual 3.5mm. will update when finished.

Is this for the Kenwood (Baofeng) style of Speaker mic? I was toying with cutting the connections off and rewiring to fit the (tr)uSDX but an adapter would be great - Hear so many conflicting reports on the audio quality from the speaker itself, but apparently headphones can sort it out.

I have one of the Chinese mics sold for usdx. It ends in a 4 conductor TRRS 3.5mm adapter. I plugged it into a splitter that is for a headset to an old computer. TRRS in, 2 TRS out. I had to rewire the mic cable inside the mic and the only way it could work was to use the microphone marked plug into the audio and the headphones marked connector in the PTT connector.

The volume must be high as the speaker is 8ohm. The mic ant PTT function. I will perform sound checks as I can make contacts. The rewire was done with an ohm meter to swap wires to the right position and I tied the negative mic and speaker connections in the microphone to a common ground.

Pay attention to the speaker impedance. The small speaker connected to the PCB is 32 ohms. So also externally you have to connect something similar. 8 ohms is too little, better to use headphones.

Pardon me if this has been discussed. Looking at the schematic, it appears that the external microphone should also be electret. Does anyone have input on a microphone that sounds good with the rig?

Tnx,

I am assembling an Electret capsule, there is not much to do or to look for.
