NEXT STEP: Collecting personal data via survey

Dear All!

1) Markus, all enclosure discussion participats - thank you for pushing this
topic forward. I understand, we are not sure yet if Markus or
latewarning (sorry I do not find your name / sign yet :-) would be able to
make such a massive order. Markus - please keep us informed about the
progress. I think that 5 EUR is fully legitime for 1 enclosure - seeing
current issues.

2) Please fill out the google survey on the link below. Once you submit the
survey, I assume you will pay for the ordered kit/enclosures.
There was comment to use email for sharing data - I understand, it is easy to
send, but it would be not easy to me to parse ~86 emails to get data - survey
will generate nice Excel spreadsheet I can use for printing addresses etc.

LINK TO ORDER SURVEY: https://forms.gle/WPgVrMv4FbgVYfJ38
Due date: 16th January 2022, 3pm CET

I will share my Bank Account, paypal and other information to the emails you
provided in the survey.

Best regards,
Adam SN3AK

Hello Adam,
I sent my response (I'm Stefano IS0EIR), then I realised there's no email field in the survey. You probably want to fix that. Do you want me to sent you my mail privately?

Regarding the enclosures: my problem is that I don't always work from home, so I cannot print everyday. Maybe I can print 3 enclosures per week. That's why I would contribute to the printing effort, but with a small amount (~ 10 units).

Furthermore, I think we need to manage the expectations of the group. My prints will not match the quality of Manuel's. It won't matter for the bottom and the sides, but will be noticeable in the top, especially for the labels (that by the way will be orange, not black). I will post a photo of my result and let the participants of the group decide if they deem it acceptable or we need to find another solution.

From my side survey completed.
I've got a question what about the Group 2, what are the plans for this group? Are this is only a "backup" for the Group 1? It seems like if there will be few more orders Group 2 also would exceed the 50 orders.

I think that's excellent!

I have a second set of (orange 'flat pack') parts printing now. I plan to print the knob / speaker spacer in black PET-G (it also means I can make use of 2 printers) - the 'B' printer (a cheapie Kingroon 3DPS) is printing the first of those now and it looks promising - currently around 1cm height.

I shall post some more photos later today.

By the way, I presume that colleagues will source their own screws for assembling these? (I could source those from a local trade supplier for around €0,50 extra per kit (stainless steel, Allen, domed head)).

My first 'production sample'. This is with cap head rather than domed screws - I would prefer to assemble with domed head M3x30 stainless. No need to tap the plastic, just assemble the parts by hand and then screw the screws in (electric screwdriver is nice for this!) while applying some downward pressure to keep the whole vertical stack nicely sandwiched. The quality of the black parts isn't quite as nice as the orange ones, but I think the colour contrast plus my time saving (making use of a second printer for the black parts) is a good trade off.

I haven't made any attempt to clean off the wisps of filament ('stringing') - colleagues can do this with a craft knife, tweezers, side cutters, etc. - probably 5 minutes' work, max. Just to set expectations - I would ship these parts as they come off the printers.

Looks good!
I suspect that the ambient temperature affects the print quality. Probably air currents can influence and ...

The screws?
The price is good but I think it is a useless complication. Any of us can find 8 M3 screws in the lab.
I prefer submerged or semi-round head screws.
But if buyers want that set of screws, I have nothing against it.

The black parts are coming along nicely. Flat pack orange parts are taking a while. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the poll to see how many sets of enclosure parts will be wanted for the kits for the first batch.

Dear Stefano IS0EIR -> thank you for pointing my fault - lack of email field in the survey.
I have added the field.

Dear All,

PLEASE FILL OUT THE SURVEY AGAIN IF YOU NOT PROVIDED EMAIL IN THE COMMENT >>
https://forms.gle/TjDiebTrasuNQjQd9

I really sorry for that inconvenience. Due date not changed: 16 January, 3pm CET

PROGRESS UPDATE:
1) JLCPCB parts availability checked for Mainboard. 4 parts are not available. I will go with following plan:
Si5351A-B-GT -> will be replaced by MS5351
LT6231 -> will be replaced by LM833
SN74CBT3253 -> purchase art separately
74AST00 -> purchase part separately
Please be aware that last 2 positions will require you to solder them to PCB. All other SMT components will be soldered by JLCPCB.

Stay tuned,

It will be difficult for many of us to solder the following parts ourselves.
If ordered it and send to JLCPCB the parts to solder it them.
Is that an option ?

SN74CBT3253 -> purchase art separately
74AST00 -> purchase part separately

Looking at other forum topics, the SN74CBT3253 can be substituted with FST3253.
This will clear the concerns with hand soldering, as the 74AST00 is pretty big and easier to solder.

EDIT: nevermind, I checked and they are both out of stock.

Sure

Creality Ender 5 Pro with standard magnetic flexi build surface with no adhesive, just cleaned with alcohol - sticks almost too well
Amazon Basics (Mitsubishi) PET-G
0.2mm layer height (including initial layer)
0.4mm nozzle
70º bed
240º nozzle
40 mm/s print speed
45 mm/s retraction speed
150 mm/s travel speed
50% fan

Sliced with Cura 4.13.0

(The black parts are printed on a Kingroon K3PS with very similar parameters - the results are a little more crude).

I currently have 6 full sets bagged and in the 'outbound' box. I have a printer working on the orange parts about 14 hours a day right now.

Gracias EA5HQ!

Anyway I am sorry if I am asking this, but today the 16th its is a due date scheduled right?

What would be the next steps once we have added info via web form? I reckon from the explanation in a previous post that we would be individually contacted in order to confirm interest/submit payment?

Hello All,

I planned to complete Group 1 list today, but since 3pm deadline was misleading - let's postpone till midnight (16th January 23:59, today).

NEXT STEPs:
1) I will sent list with who and how many kits/closures to be ordered in Group 1
2) I will send email to Group 1 with my account no + paypal
3) Collecting money for Group 1 (due date TBD - see info below)

I am quite concerned about parts availability in JLCPCB - it is changing every day.
Checking a few minutes ego, there is shortage of: 74ACT00, ATMEGA328P, SN74CBT3253(FST3253 too), LT6231 and ... some 1nF capacitors. I will have to hunt and have some lucky to have in shortage only parts which are easy to solder by hand. Anyway, I am monitoring JLCPCB parts availability daily.

Update: I now have 12 full sets of prints bagged up. So my production rate is about 12 a week - I can only print 1 set a day at weekends, normally. Plus I get the occasional failure, particularly with the lettering on the top plate where I'm sure everybody wants clear lettering. My printer equipment wear and tear estimate was valid - the PETG sticks too well to the soft magnetic build surface and after many prints the detachable surface starts to get damaged - no matter how carefully I try and separate parts from the print surface.

I really hope that growing part shortages for the electronics aren't going to mean I'm sitting on dozens of sets of parts that took me weeks to print...
