[Classic] Low power output (and low power input too)

Post by EA3IUE »

Hello everyone,
first of all, let me say that this radio si absolutely impressive. Manuel and Guido, you are making an outstanding work!
I received mine, Classic Bands kit version, from Up Tech Store some weeks ago. In the first experiments I blew up the final: 100% my fault, not noticing that the SWR of the antenna went to the moon.
I replaced it (same part from Mouser) and so far so good.
Only issue I am facing is that it is drawing way too little current from the power supply while in TX.
Measurements done with TinySA are as follows, varying input voltage, always on the 20m band:

Code: Select all

Voltage Current Power in Power out (dBm) Power out (W) Efficiency
 8,00 V 0,170 A 1,36 W 29,20 dBm 0,83 W 61,16%
 9,00 V 0,191 A 1,72 W 30,20 dBm 1,05 W 60,91%
10,00 V 0,208 A 2,08 W 31,20 dBm 1,32 W 63,38%
11,00 V 0,227 A 2,50 W 32,20 dBm 1,66 W 66,46%
12,00 V 0,245 A 2,94 W 32,70 dBm 1,86 W 63,34%
13,00 V 0,264 A 3,43 W 33,20 dBm 2,09 W 60,88%
13,50 V 0,272 A 3,67 W 33,70 dBm 2,34 W 63,84%

From the current measurement I subtracted the 55mA absorbed in RX.
The measurements match quite well these provided by the radio itself on the display.
The current/power values are similar in the other bands, but I focused on 20m because it is the only one I have an antenna for at the moment.
I also checked the filters with the NanoVNA: all perfect there too.
Any suggestion will be welcome.
