Hi Kazu and group,

Here's a link to the short headers (3.5mm and 5mm) I bought on AE: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32994110363.html

Also, here are the speakers I bought on AE: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32859997207.html

Saves a lot of money but long wait for "slow boat" from China to USA.

I ordered my relays from Aliexpress for less than $2 CAD per relay. Let's see if I actually receive what I ordered...

I've had some bad experiences with Aliexpress vendors selling electronic components that don't meet specifications. You end up waiting for delivery and get crap you can't use and then having to order again. But it is a hit and miss.

Those are 8 ohm speakers....

I ordered these from ali, 23mm 32ohm. Work fine.

Oops, yes, they are. I (perhaps incorrectly) figured they'd work, is there any story/explanation behind a 32 ohm speaker being used? I'm guessing the IO line used on the Atmega does not have such a spec, but what do I know?

Thanks.

Look again closely to the schematics...
The 270 ohm resistor is only active, when something is in the jack (external speaker or headphones).

The speaker is driven directly by the atmega.
It's also not 5V, but more like 2,5V on the output and max current is reached at level 15 at 32 ohms. At level 12 on 8 ohms speaker ...

This is why 32 ohms. This, and a lot of practical speaker tests.

I highly recommend using through hole relays rather than SMT relays with the pins straightened. I had a very painful experience doing this very thing on a Tulip SDR build, had numerous open circuited relay pins because of leads which did not fully penetrate the PCB/protrude from the other side. The IM43's in through hole version are $2.81 USD in single piece quantities on Digikey and in stock.

I've ordered Hongfa HFD4/5's (not the -S versions, SMT again) for this build. Same relays used on the Tulip and equivalent to the IM43's as nearly as I can tell. LCSC.com has these for $1.34 USD in single piece quantities, even less (<$1 USD) on AE.

I double that ! This is why the Link on my Page has changed to IM43TS (no longer IM43GR).

Hi Russ/ Robert

thanks for the speaker link I've ordered a couple. I've started to look for the relays and did a quick look on Alisexpress didn't see them there, do you have a link for them or a substitute.

Hi Ron,

The IM43TS are not on AE but other places (the usual suspects) have them. If you are referring to the HFD4/5's, here you go: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003560540747.html But, be forewarned, although I have studied the datasheets for both extensively, the non-latching/matching polarity gobbledy-gook in the data sheets was quite confusing, I will not be responsible for parts that do not work (although my best instincts say they are a drop-in).

Ron;

I ordered my IM43GR from HONGGUIJIE Store on Aliexpress. They are the SMD type, but I know you have experience soldering this type in your ATU-10.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000381 ... 4c4dzosSmg

You can also buy them from Mouser - no waiting!

Me too! I will have those (10) available (when they arrive) for anyone not wanting to wait for the "slow boat from China".

:):) thanks for the info, if you keep the pins straight the SMD version should be ok. it worked well on the ATU-10.

I recommend to pre-solder (tinning) the pins after straighten, before put on the PCB.

For Pin header and Pin Socket, I will try
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Sa ... Bmpw%3D%3D
and
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Sa ... jz2Q%3D%3D

But since the 14pin socket is expensive, I will also order 16pin socket (then cut 2 pins off)

Good afternoon community and Manuel! Thank you very much for your work! Tell me, is it possible to replace the relay with HFD4/5L ? Another question, several positions of inventory shortage capacitors, how can they be replaced? Can release BOM file version 1.1? 8-) when there is free time, of course. And yet, why are C10, C13, C15, C17, C18, C26, C34, C39 unnecessary for soldering? For the future?

1. The HFD4/5L has been ordered for testing and evaluation. Once it arrives, and has been tested for equivalence, an announcement will be made.

2. They can be replaced with equivalent C0G/NP0 parts of suitable voltage rating.

3. Empty pads are there to allow you to put multiple caps in parallel, in case of parts shortages.

Hi Group,

FWIW, the HFD4/5L is the latching version of the HFD4/5, this is not what we want. Without the L is the non-latching version. So, the desired PN is HFD4/5 (no S either, which is for the SMT version).

No, actually Latching is what we want....
Non Latching not supported.
IM43 are Latching, SIngle Coil, 5V.
HFD4/5L might work, while noone has tested it yet.

Hi Group,

Today as I completed assembly of my first (tr)uSDX, I tried the HFD4/5-L which I had built the RF board with. They seem to work fine, at least as far as I have tested. I getting between 2W (20m) and 3W (80m) RF output, I do not think that this has anything to do with the relays. I will be firing up a second (tr)uSDX tomorrow and will see if the power levels are similar or different (using toroids from a different source). The HFD4/5-L relays seem to be working fine (as I would expect them to).

Hello all,

Anyone here bought the kit from *Rxxxx*.com?
If so do they calculate VAT into the price at checkout? I am in the EU. Cheers.
