Short Encoder

Post by wa2t »

Hi Group,

I finally received my short encoders from Aliexpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32976046900.html) and installed one (then two). These too are reverse pins to what the (tr)uSDX BOM specifies (seems perhaps this pinout is the more common one?). Anyway, very happy with the resulting low profile. I put a small, solid aluminum knob (with no pointer) on to complete the look/mod.

Robert;

I purchased Uxcell short shaft encoders from Amazon that have the correct A/B line phases

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07R8G ... UTF8&psc=1

Which allows me to use a nice AL tuning knobs from Aliexpress...

Very good VA3RR! Those encoders are kind of expensive though. I do a mod on the PCB to reverse the A/B pins (can be seen in some of the photos I have posted). Also, I do not care for the splined shaft encoders or knobs, but if you like them, that is all that matters.

Has anyone tried dremeling off part of the stock encoder shaft?

Hi.
I'd be inclined to put the shaft end in a vice and very carefully remove a few millimetres with a junior hacksaw, this is the method I use when cutting the shafts on volume controls and switches.

Yes, no problem.
You have to hold the shaft and cut it off with a metal saw.
Easier to do it before soldering.
