Mine is new and I don't want to wreck it so want some confirmation. The encoder shaft is just split and splined, right? No Loctite used so I can just pull it off?

I can't get it off and wonder if there is a way other than cutting it in half with a Dremel or hacksaw. I tried using a wedge and it won't budge. I don't want to damage the case or the encoder. But that big knob has got to go!

Try this:

And be careful!
If that doesn't work, maybe TNT or something will help...

Thanks! That's brilliant. I was licensed in 1957 but never knew that trick. BTW the shaft is NOT split/splined but straight with a cutout intended for a set screw.....

Yes, this trick mostly works. ;)
The shaft is called "D-shaft".

Have fun!
