Lo Bands to Classic

Post by W3EQB »

As all classic board are sold out, I've purchased the standard lo bands kit.
As I look at the rf board schematics between lo band and classic, I only see three changes.
A change of capacitor values, check.
Change of some toroids and windings, no problem.
The last is the lo bands rf board I received requires three transistors Q1 Q2 and Q3 (BS170), where the Classic schematic is the single Q5 (FDT86256).

Is this going to be an issue if I convert my board to classic bands?

Thanks in advance for any response.

Yes, it's doable. I converted from lo band to hi band version and the tcvr works well on all 5 band with efficiencies ~75%.
Make sure all C`s your`re swapping out are COG/NPO (100V) type.
Use T37-6 cores for the upper bands.
Set Bias for T5 (FDT86256) to 160.
More details can be found in the "(tr)uSDX -Alternative Band Setup available" thread.

73, good luck ....Jens, DL2RMM

P.S. if you run into an "RX hum" issue on the upper bands, I`d recommend the 8V OLED display mod by WA2T using 78L08 as voltage regulator

I just saw on the back of the board there is Q5 (FDT86256)...
How one is to "bais it to 160" is beyond me, so I'll have to figure it out, or just not have 10m...

Edit: I found it, looks like its just a setting and nothing too complicated.
