Higher Output 5v regulator

Post by N1CJ »

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to add an amplified speaker built into the (tr)uSDX. My first thought was to use the vcc line to power the amplifier board, but this makes the whole rig unstable. It causes it to flicker & reset multiple times, including occasionally doing a factory reset when I press the buttons. Turns out it pulls too much power for the little voltage regulator. I did double-check by powering with USB and it had no issues.

So, I would like to replace the voltage regulator with a 500ma version (78m05). Are there any issues that I would have to be aware of by running a higher power voltage regulator? I assume there's nothing more since it worked fine with USB power. I'm already aware of the reversed input and output legs, so I plan on mounting it upside down.

Thanks for any input.
