USB Connector Failure

Post by ai5ii »

My USB CONNECTOR has failed. Symptoms were intermittant power and data loss when moving the cable. The connector itself was loose and not soldered to ground tabs so I soldered them from the bottom of the PCB. I now have no data or power at the port. Suggestions? Is there a recommended replacement USB connector? Part number?

Thanks,

Hello OM,

all part numbers can be picked from the (tr)uSDX assembly page using the ibom picture/plugin there.
Have you thought about ESD and grounded your soldering iron? Especially important in winter times when air is much more dry and therefore ESD is often getting a real problem.
What you decribe sounds for me like a possible failure due to ESD when soldering the USB connector again.....

Assuming what you are saying were true and ESD took out the CH340 chip, how would that affect the +5v supply? The (tr)usdx still works but cannot be powered via USB nor is the port detected. Possible ESD would explain the data issue but loss of the ability to power the radio via USB?

Make sure it’s not just the cable

That was the first thing I checked.
